Unite Disability Campaign Launches at the TUC Congress!
Fighting for a world where everyone belongs!
September 7-10th, saw the TUC Congress, held in Brighton.Unite General Secretary Sharon Graham and Martyn Gwyther, Executive Council Representative for Disabilities, launched Unite’s National campaign to stop the cuts to disability benefits.•
Unite are calling for a level playing field for disabled people in the workplace.•
Disabled people need equal opportunities in the workplace• and reasonable adjustments should be necessary adjustments!
Disability Pay Gap Day November 12th marked disability pay gap day. The date that disabled workers start working for their employer for free!Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said “Disabled workers already have enough challenges to deal with without also being discriminated against by employers on pay. The average underpayment of over£4000 is a disgrace, equating to a shocking 49 days where employers are effectively getting them towork for free.
Discrimination against disabled workers is also a monumental waste of talent. With disabled workers locked out of the workplace or unable to properly use their skills and knowledge because of failures to make necessary adjustments .I am proud that Unite is at the heart of tacking the disability pay gap and fighting for disabled workers
